Career Advising
Career Advising plans, develops and implements programs, activities and services to foster career development. Educates students in self-reflection and in identifying their options for majors and careers, and to communicate skills and interests through written methods (resumes, cover letters, social media) and interpersonally (interviewing and networking). Assists in planning career events, mentoring programs or other opportunities for students to undertake learning experiences such as internships, projects or research opportunities.

Position Summary

The Associate Academic Coordinator within Career Advising is responsible for supporting the development and execution of career services programs designed to enhance students' professional development and career readiness. In this role, the associate coordinator works closely with students to guide them through the process of self-reflection, helping them identify career interests, strengths, and opportunities. By providing one-on-one advising, the position helps students explore career paths, develop effective resumes and cover letters, practice interviewing techniques, and utilize social media for professional networking. The associate coordinator also supports the creation and delivery of workshops, events, and seminars aimed at fostering students' career development and readiness for post-graduation success. The role involves assisting in the coordination of career-related events such as career fairs, employer recruitment sessions, internships, and mentorship programs, while also tracking and maintaining resources and materials used in career advising. This position works collaboratively with faculty, employers, alumni, and other campus partners to build networks that connect students with professional opportunities. The associate coordinator helps facilitate experiential learning opportunities, such as internships, projects, and research experiences, which are critical in preparing students for the workforce. Additionally, the role provides ongoing career-related support, including job search strategies, graduate school advising, and networking opportunities, to ensure students can successfully navigate their chosen career paths. As an individual contributor in an entry-level role, the Associate Academic Coordinator works under the supervision of senior staff within the career services team, contributing to the overall success of career development initiatives. The position requires an understanding of career advising principles and a passion for helping students achieve professional success. While the role may involve some degree of independent work, it emphasizes collaboration with other student services departments and stakeholders to ensure a cohesive approach to student career advising. The Associate Academic Coordinator's work directly impacts student engagement, career exploration, and the integration of career planning with academic development, supporting students in their transition from education to professional life.
