Student Advising provides planning, advising, and support services to students to ensure their academic, personal, and professional success. Educates students in self-reflection, identifying their options for majors and careers, and to communicate skills and interests through written methods and interpersonally.

Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The Academic Director for Student Advising provides visionary leadership and strategic oversight of advising services that promote student academic, personal, and professional success. Positioned within the broader division of Student Services, this role ensures the coordination and delivery of high-impact advising practices across academic units, supporting student self-reflection, educational planning, and goal setting. The director leads efforts to align advising strategies with institutional goals for student retention, progression, and graduation, while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for a diverse student population. This position plays a central role in developing comprehensive advising models that integrate academic guidance with career planning, skill development, and holistic student support. The director oversees the implementation of innovative advising technologies, evidence-based practices, and staff training initiatives that enhance student engagement and achievement. By collaborating with faculty, administrators, and other student services units—including financial aid, learning support, and student development—the director ensures that advising services are responsive to student needs and evolving academic pathways. At the M3 level in the academic administration and leadership track, the Academic Director is responsible for the planning, staffing, budgeting, and strategic direction of the student advising unit. The role includes supervision of managers and professional staff, oversight of unit-wide initiatives, and collaboration with executive leadership to establish and assess institutional advising goals. The director represents the advising function in university-wide decision-making forums and contributes to the long-term vision for student success. This position requires a forward-thinking, student-centered leader capable of driving innovation, ensuring accountability, and building strong cross-campus partnerships to support the academic journey of all students.
