General Consultant, Pre-Award

Pre-Award constitutes anything related to grant management prior to the award being received. Pre-award activities typically include finding funding, budget creation, filling out proposal forms, submitting proposal forms, award negotiation and acceptance, and compliance consideration.

Position Summary

The General Consultant for Pre-Award provides expert guidance and support in managing the pre-award process for grants and contracts. This advanced individual contributor role requires a deep understanding of grant funding, proposal development, and compliance considerations. The consultant works closely with academic and research teams to identify funding opportunities, assist in the creation of project budgets, and prepare proposal documents for submission to funding agencies. They also play a key role in negotiating terms of awards and ensuring that all aspects of the proposal process meet institutional and sponsor requirements. As a subject matter expert, the General Consultant for Pre-Award mentors junior staff, provides strategic advice on proposal development, and advises on best practices to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of pre-award activities. They act independently, taking initiative to solve complex problems and streamline processes, while also contributing to process improvements across the pre-award cycle. In addition, they may collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership to influence strategic planning related to grants and contracts, ensuring that all pre-award activities align with institutional goals and compliance standards.
