Position Summary

The General Consultant in Content Development plays a critical role in shaping and enhancing the university’s content strategy across various platforms, ensuring that all materials are not only informative and engaging but also aligned with Virginia Tech’s overall brand and objectives. This role involves working closely with teams from communications, marketing, and other university departments to develop content that supports the university’s goals and resonates with a wide range of audiences, including prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, and the general public. The consultant will leverage creative skills and strategic thinking to deliver high-quality content that amplifies key messages and promotes engagement. As an individual contributor in a highly autonomous role, the General Consultant will be responsible for leading the development of content strategies and creating original materials, such as articles, videos, social media posts, and web content. The consultant will work with subject matter experts across the university to gather insights, identify key topics, and craft compelling narratives that communicate the university’s values and achievements. Additionally, the consultant will review and refine content produced by other team members, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and adherence to university guidelines. They will also be expected to mentor junior team members, offering guidance and support in content creation and strategy. The General Consultant will also be tasked with evaluating the effectiveness of content initiatives by analyzing engagement metrics and audience feedback. Using this data, they will refine content strategies to optimize reach and impact, ensuring that content consistently supports Virginia Tech’s goals and drives engagement. As part of this role, the consultant will need to stay abreast of trends in content development, digital marketing, and audience behavior, ensuring that the university’s content remains innovative and relevant. The position requires a high level of independence, experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders to create content that advances the university’s mission.
