Writing and Editorial collects, prepares, and arranges materials and content for publication. Validates outlines, story content, and written content to ensure it meets requirements and brand standards. Writes communications, publications and reports (e.g., briefing materials, talking points, speeches, scripts, press releases, website material and documents for publication).

Position Summary

The General Consultant for Writing and Editorial plays a crucial role in ensuring that all written materials align with the university's communication and marketing strategies. With an advanced level of experience and expertise, this position is responsible for providing high-level consultation and guidance on the creation, editing, and strategic use of written content across various platforms. The consultant will work closely with departments and units across the university to craft engaging, clear, and impactful communications, including press releases, speeches, website content, reports, and other promotional or informational materials that support the university’s messaging and brand. In this individual contributor role, the consultant will oversee the development of written materials from conceptualization through final publication, ensuring that all content is accurate, aligns with university standards, and resonates with targeted audiences. This includes validating story outlines, reviewing drafts for clarity and tone, and editing content to meet organizational goals and objectives. The consultant will be instrumental in producing written communications that support a range of initiatives, from internal university announcements to external media outreach, while maintaining consistency in voice and style across all content. The role also requires a deep understanding of strategic content development, as the consultant will provide mentorship to junior writers and editors within the team, offering advice on best practices for content creation and editorial processes. With significant autonomy, the consultant will lead writing projects, set deadlines, and ensure high-quality output, all while maintaining flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities. Additionally, the consultant will stay current with industry trends and evolving communication strategies, bringing innovative ideas and approaches to enhance the university's written content and overall public image.
