Data Management is responsible for the practice of collecting, keeping, and using data securely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. The goal of data management is to help faculty, staff, students, and the university optimize the use of data within the bounds of policy and regulation.

Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 2
Manager: Responsible for leading a team of professionals and/or support employees. Has full responsibility for team output. Focuses on implementing and executing strategies within their own department or team.

Position Summary

The Technical Manager in Data Management is responsible for leading and managing the data management team, overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of systems that support the university’s data infrastructure. This role ensures that data is collected, stored, and utilized securely and efficiently, aligning with both university policies and industry best practices. The Technical Manager oversees the daily operations of the team, setting goals and priorities while ensuring the team meets performance targets and adheres to timelines. The manager is also responsible for ensuring that all data management processes are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with regulatory requirements. As the team leader, the Technical Manager plays a key role in managing the technical aspects of data management systems, ensuring data security, privacy, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The manager directs the implementation of new technologies and data management processes, evaluating tools and systems for their effectiveness and potential to enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, the Technical Manager will be responsible for troubleshooting technical issues, resolving system problems, and ensuring the smooth operation of data management systems. They work closely with other departments to ensure seamless integration of data management practices across the university. The Technical Manager is also responsible for staff development, including training, performance evaluation, and mentorship. This includes overseeing the recruitment process, providing guidance, and fostering a collaborative environment to ensure team members have the skills and resources necessary to perform effectively. By setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and encouraging professional growth, the Technical Manager ensures that the data management team operates efficiently and contributes to the university's overall data-driven goals. This role also involves continuous improvement efforts to optimize data management processes and align them with the strategic objectives of the university.
