Research identifies opportunities and provide institutional guidance for research programs to organize and focus strategic research efforts within and across traditional disciplinary boundaries to help researchers as they identify, pursue, capture, and deliver research programs.
Executive
Executive: The positions work is achieved through the strategic direction of the organization as a whole. Executives have direct accountability for setting strategic goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of a senior management area or other business unit with a universitywide scope of impact. These positions contribute to the highest-level panels and teams. The decisions made under the purview of the executive positions duties must routinely have direct impact on success across the university and impact the overall development of the university. Executive positions are reflected in the E1-E3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Associate Executive: Accountable for annual execution of goals and objectives in area of responsibility; disseminates goals to direct reports and ensures goals are operationalized. Recommends and may approve policy for area of operational and/or functional control. Typically has multiple directors and managers as direct reports. Scope of responsibility is a university wide sub-function with multiple disciplines, or multiple functions within a college or business unit.

Position Summary

The Associate General Executive within Research plays a key leadership role in overseeing and guiding the strategic direction of the university's research initiatives. This position supports the development, coordination, and execution of research programs that align with the university’s mission and strategic objectives. The Associate Executive works closely with senior leadership to ensure that research efforts are focused, innovative, and positioned to enhance the university’s impact across academic disciplines. The role involves overseeing the operational aspects of research, providing guidance to research units, and ensuring the efficient use of resources to meet institutional goals. As an Associate Executive, this role involves significant responsibility for setting and operationalizing annual goals and objectives for the research function. The Associate Executive provides leadership and oversight to a team of directors and managers, ensuring that research initiatives are executed effectively across multiple disciplines or functional areas. This position is responsible for translating high-level strategic goals into actionable plans, monitoring progress, and making recommendations to optimize operations. The Associate Executive also has a role in approving and shaping policies that impact research administration and overall research strategy, ensuring alignment with university priorities and industry standards. With a university-wide scope of influence, the Associate General Executive within Research works in close collaboration with faculty, academic departments, and external stakeholders to drive innovation, strengthen research partnerships, and support the university’s research agenda. This position requires advanced strategic thinking, leadership skills, and an in-depth understanding of the academic research landscape. The Associate Executive is expected to have a direct impact on shaping research initiatives and contributing to the broader academic and research success of the institution, driving long-term growth and excellence in research activities.
