Health Education and Outreach is responsible for the health of the student and employee population, decreasing the impact of illnesses and diseases by encouraging healthy behavior through education and outreach. Provides health-related education guidelines, encouragement and support to individuals, while holding them accountable for achieving their health goals.

Position Summary

The Academic Director within Health Education and Outreach serves as a senior leader within Student Services, guiding the vision, strategy, and execution of comprehensive health education initiatives that support student learning, development, and well-being. This role oversees multiple programs and units focused on advancing health equity, promoting wellness, and removing barriers to academic success through proactive, education-based outreach. The director collaborates across departments such as academic advising, student engagement, mental health services, and residential life to ensure that health education is embedded within the broader student support ecosystem, fostering a campus environment conducive to personal and academic growth. In alignment with Healthcare Services, the director provides institutional leadership in developing and implementing health education strategies that support the continuum of care, including preventive education, mental health promotion, and coordinated care transitions. This includes designing campus-wide initiatives, leading interdisciplinary collaborations, and evaluating the impact of outreach efforts on student success and retention. The director ensures that programming is inclusive, culturally responsive, and informed by current research and best practices, while supporting the health needs of both students and employees. As a key stakeholder in campus health planning, the director advises executive leadership on issues related to student health outcomes, public health trends, and resource allocation. At the M3 level in the academic administration and management track, this position holds overall responsibility for the planning, staffing, budgeting, and strategic direction of the Health Education and Outreach unit. The Academic Director leads a team of managers and professional staff and has indirect oversight of affiliated programs and partnerships across campus. They work closely with senior university leadership to align departmental goals with institutional priorities, influence university-wide health policy, and advocate for sustained investment in student wellness. This role requires a visionary leader who can integrate academic, health, and administrative expertise to drive impactful and lasting change in the campus community.
