Academic Advising provides advising, planning, and support services to students to ensure their academic, personal and professional success. Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule and course selection, choice of major, minor, degree and graduation requirements, interpretation of department, college and university requirements, career exploration, and other related matters.

Position Summary

The Senior Academic Coordinator in Academic Advising plays a pivotal role in guiding students toward their academic, personal, and professional goals. This position involves providing advanced advising services and overseeing the development of advising strategies to support a diverse student population. The Senior Coordinator is responsible for leading and mentoring junior academic advisors while also offering high-level academic guidance to students, assisting with course selection, major/minor decisions, degree and graduation requirements, and career exploration. The role ensures that students are equipped with the resources and knowledge to navigate their academic journey effectively and successfully. In addition to direct student advising, the Senior Academic Coordinator takes a leadership role in coordinating advising processes, programs, and initiatives. This includes developing and implementing strategies for academic success, retention, and progression. The Senior Coordinator will work closely with faculty, staff, and other departments to ensure that advising is aligned with institutional policies, and that students receive accurate and timely information about their academic options. They are also responsible for assessing the effectiveness of advising services and making recommendations for improvement, ensuring that academic advising supports both the academic goals of students and the broader mission of the institution. A critical aspect of this role is the oversight of advising teams and workflows. The Senior Academic Coordinator is responsible for training, mentoring, and supervising academic advisors, fostering a collaborative environment where the team can thrive. The role also involves managing advising resources and tools, tracking student progress, and providing reports on advising outcomes and trends. By maintaining a high level of expertise in academic policies and student support services, the Senior Academic Coordinator ensures that advising is student-centered, responsive, and aligned with institutional priorities, playing a key role in supporting student success and institutional goals.
