Academic Advising provides advising, planning, and support services to students to ensure their academic, personal and professional success. Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule and course selection, choice of major, minor, degree and graduation requirements, interpretation of department, college and university requirements, career exploration, and other related matters.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The Academic Supervisor in Academic Advising is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the academic advising team. This position involves supervising a team of academic advisors, ensuring they are effectively supporting students in their academic, personal, and professional journeys. The Academic Supervisor coordinates advising activities, assigns caseloads, monitors advisor performance, and ensures that all advisors are properly trained and equipped to guide students through course selection, major/minor decisions, degree requirements, and career exploration. The supervisor ensures that all advising services align with institutional policies and student success objectives. In addition to managing the team, the Academic Supervisor plays a key role in facilitating communication and collaboration between academic advising staff and other student services departments. They work closely with faculty and academic departments to ensure that advising practices are aligned with curriculum requirements and institutional goals. The Academic Supervisor also ensures that students receive timely and accurate academic guidance and support by developing and overseeing procedures for advising, tracking student progress, and addressing issues that arise during the advising process. This role requires a strong understanding of academic policies, student success strategies, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive advising environment. The Academic Supervisor is responsible for the professional development and training of academic advisors, ensuring that the team remains up-to-date on changes to academic programs, advising practices, and institutional initiatives. This includes creating and implementing training programs, providing feedback and coaching to advisors, and conducting performance evaluations. The supervisor ensures the team meets departmental goals related to student success, retention, and graduation rates, and is accountable for the overall quality of academic advising services provided to students. By effectively managing the advising team and continuously improving advising practices, the Academic Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting student achievement and contributing to the overall success of the institution.
