Senior Academic Coordinator, Career Advising

Career Advising
Career Advising plans, develops and implements programs, activities and services to foster career development. Educates students in self-reflection and in identifying their options for majors and careers, and to communicate skills and interests through written methods (resumes, cover letters, social media) and interpersonally (interviewing and networking). Assists in planning career events, mentoring programs or other opportunities for students to undertake learning experiences such as internships, projects or research opportunities.

Position Summary

The Senior Academic Coordinator within Career Advising plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing comprehensive career development programs aimed at preparing students for professional success. This role involves leading the delivery of individualized career advising services, working directly with students to help them assess their career goals, select appropriate academic pathways, and develop the skills necessary for career readiness. The Senior Academic Coordinator provides expertise in areas such as resume writing, cover letter drafting, networking strategies, interview preparation, and leveraging social media for professional branding. This position acts as a point of authority within the department for career advising matters, offering guidance to students and other staff members. In addition to providing direct advising, the Senior Academic Coordinator takes on significant responsibility for organizing and overseeing large-scale career events, such as career fairs, employer panels, networking opportunities, and internship recruitment programs. They work collaboratively with employers, academic departments, and other campus offices to build and sustain relationships that create job and internship opportunities for students. The role involves managing the logistics of career-related programming, ensuring that all initiatives align with student needs and institutional goals. Furthermore, the coordinator helps students secure valuable experiential learning opportunities like internships, mentorship programs, and research projects, which are integral to career development. As a senior-level individual contributor, the Senior Academic Coordinator acts with a high degree of autonomy and is responsible for leading career development initiatives within the institution. This position may also involve mentoring and providing leadership to less experienced staff or student employees, ensuring that all members of the career services team are aligned with the department's objectives. With extensive experience in career advising, the Senior Academic Coordinator is expected to contribute strategically to the development and enhancement of the overall career services program. Their work has a broad impact on the student experience, preparing students for success in the competitive workforce.
